China’s Tencent goes all in, gives users 10TB free cloud storage

Boom. Chinese internet giant Tencent just gave its competitors a serious wake up call. You see, while the likes Baidu and Qihoo 360 have been courting users with the offer of 1TB free cloud storage the Tencent execs decided that just wasn’t enough. No, their users need 10TB of cloud storage.

But before you go completely crazy thinking of ways to to fill up all that storage space, you should be aware that there is a caveat. Tencent won’t give it to you all at once, but will top it up as you run out of space.

As The Next Web reports, in order to get your hands on the deal you have to sign up for Tencent QQ and download the latest version of the Tencent Cloud (Weiyun) mobile app.

From there, click on the big blue button on the Weiyun promo site and you should immediately receive 1TB worth of free storage. As you deplete the space, Tencent should top it up.

At this stage, it seems like it’s just a special offer so you should probably snap it up while you still can.

If however Tencent decides to make it permanent, it could be a massive move in the Chinese online space. Not only does it benefit the average consumer, it also puts serious pressure on specialist cloud storage providers which frequently offer large amounts of storage as incentives for people to sign up.

Certainly though, the likes of Dropbox have never offered as much storage as any of the big Chinese companies are.
