5 awesome Windows screensavers from the 90s

Remember old-school “fattie” monitors otherwise known as CRT displays? Remember how screensavers used to be a very necessary evil and a way of preventing the cancer-like monitor burn?

Now that you’re all caught up, let’s take a trip back to the 90s when Bill Clinton was awesome, Kurt Cobain was still positive about life and screensavers were the greatest thing in the world.

The Flying Toasters

This was the showpiece for any screensaver junkie. A screensaver package known as After Dark let you select myriad screensaver animations, but the most popular was definitely the obtuse Flying Toaster.

Flying Objects

Keep the windows flying strong we say. The Flying Objects screensaver is one of the default screensavers included with Windows 95 and adds a touch of class to any fugly monitor.

3D Maze

In its time the 3D Maze was a master class of design. By today’s standards its utterly horrendous. The maze was automatically navigated with all roads leading to a positive outcome: a happier childhood.

Mystify your mind

Ooooh, lines. Lines that bounce or arc in unison to form the very pinnacle of screensaver goodness in our opinion. It simply adds that special touch of greatness to any screen.

3D Pipes

These pipes freaking screamed out of the screen in a startling display of awesomeness. Remember how the pipes used to bunch up and cause older computers to creak to a halt? We sure do.
