Windows 8 you filthy boy, why have you chosen to spread across 9 different editions? According to sources who dug through the registry of the recently launched Windows 8 Consumer Preview, Microsoft plans to release 9 versions of Windows 8, which have been handily listed below.
- Windows 8 ARM edition
- Windows 8 Professional edition
- Windows 8 Professional Plus edition
- Windows 8 Starter edition
- Windows 8 Ultimate edition
- Windows 8 Enterprise Edition
- Windows 8 Enterprise Eval edition
- Windows 8 Home Basic Edition
- Windows 8 Home Premium edition
Because this list was hijacked from the Consumer Preview, it’s not set in stone. Enterprise Eval Edition, for instance, is preview software and will most likely be hacked off the list. Editions such as Professional Plus are especially interesting and display Microsoft’s commitment to more unified experience which offers inter-office collaboration via Office applications. The ARM edition is specifically for the less-powerful portable devices. But why the need for an evaluation of Enterprise edition is beyond us.
