iPhone rumours aplenty — better GPU,1GB RAM and improved 3D maps
From this source comes a wealth of next gen iPhone information. Will the rumours pan out and will any of these technologies make it to Apple’s WWDC later this month? Join us in a journey into the very heart of iOS 6.
The ARM S5L8950X CPU
Basically, what we have here is variant of the A5 CPU. The information was dug from the recesses of iOS 6:
Darwin Kernel Version 13.0.0: XXX May XX XX:XX:XX PDT 2012; root:xnu-21XX.X.XXX/DEVELOPMENT_ARM_S5L8950X
We can place even money on that fact that this CPU will be more powerful than the current A5 chip inside the new iPad.
Improved GPU?
The system-on-a-chip (SOC) setup comes with a GPU called “SGX543RC”. There are no tech specs surrounding the listed GPU. Hell, it doesn’t even exist yet.
A meaty 1GB RAM
Just like the new iPad, the next-gen iPhone will come with 1GB RAM. The iPhone 4S currently has 512MB RAM.
3D Maps, a slight update
Previously, we reported that the GPS and 3D map switch icon were one and the same. Now we know that the 3D map icon is under the bottom right menu. This is to avoid switching back and forth between GPS mode and 3D maps. First world problems, hey? The buttons are also reported to be bigger.
That’s all for now, but knowing how Apple hungry we are, Monday should see a wealth of new rumours.
