iPhone 5 will remedy smaller dock connector blues with backwards-compatible adapter

This was a given. With the iPhone 5 shrinking its 30-pin connector to a 19-pin dock, users with legacy hardware will miss out plugging an iPhone 5 into a sound system or whatnot. With an adapter, no money or gadget is wasted.

Here are the facts: this website dug into its sources and has all but confirmed that a 30-pin dock adapter will make its way into the hands of eager Apple fans. The site was also one of the first to break the 19-pin story on the original iPhone 5, so there’s some grain of trust here.

It was always going to happen though. There was no chance in hell that Apple would have been that stingy and kept the iPhone 5 from working with 30-pin connector hardware. There’s no news on the adapter being included with the iPhone 5. It’s likely that Apple will sell it separately, as that’s how the Cupertino giant rolls.

So the question is, why a smaller adapter in the first place. We’ve been totally unaware of it, but Apple’s already laid the groundwork for the a 19-pin dock. First, there was the iCloud. Then, wireless syncing and Airplay. As users became less reliant on physical connections, Apple confidently increased the size of its hardware. It’s had to downsize the adapter to keep its hardware plans on track. More space, more tech inside the iPhone 5. The older dock is a byproduct of hardware requirements users no longer need to rely on. But whatev’s, with a docking adapter older iDevice products will still have a place in the bleeding hearts of die-hard Apple fans.
