4x faster mobile flash memory by Samsung
Samsung has started mass-producing mobile flash memory that is up to four times faster than what it currently offers. This is great news to the mobile world, because that means everyone else must jump on the bandwagon soon, or get left behind.
The new Pro 1500 released by Samsung promises 1500 IOPS — which for the layman is inputs/outputs per second — when writing data and 3500 IOPS when reading data. This equates to about 50 MB/s writing data and 140 MB/s reading data.
The new chip can do what it does thanks to a 20 nanometer manufacturing process, JEDEC memory standard with spare 200MB/s of bandwidth and toggle DDR 2.0.
Samsung will surly not keep all the new chips for itself. It has a history of distributing to some of its competitors, too. Expect to see that fruity Cupertino company ironically taking advantage.
