Asus slips out $150 7-inch MeMO Pad

Asus MeMO pad

There was an abundance of cheap tech garbage at CES 2013, so finding a well-priced tablet amongst the stalls pandering for your attention was a difficult task. Asus has made it easy for us though, with the post-CES launch of the US$150 MeMO Pad, a 7-inch Android 4.1 tablet with a Nexus-like design.

Outside of the peppy colour-naming scheme (Sugar White, Titanium Gray and Cherry Pink), the MeMO Pad is more of the same, but it’s well-priced and decently specced. The CPU is a 1Ghz Mali-400, the processor choice of most budget devices. There’s a 1024 x 768 display running at 170PP, a 1MB front-facing HD camera (no rear), 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, a 7-hour battery life and a slew of Asus “crap apps”. Finally, the MeMO Pad weighs a slight 370g.

Just don’t call it the “Nexus-lite” though. While the Nexus 7’s hardware is only a slight upgrade in specs compared to the MeMO Pad, the 7 seems to be a far superior device in build alone. Expect a full review soon when the MeMO Pad launches later in 2013.
