A security issue that leaves certain Samsung devices, powered by the Exynos processor, vulnerable to hacking has been patched. The patch was released today for Galaxy owners in the UK, and should soon be available in other countries. This security issue was first discovered in December 2012 and after a couple of days Samsung acknowledged the issue, promising a resolution as soon as possible.

According to SamMobile the issue caused a Samsung device’s physical memory to be open to almost any app with full control, thus opening the device to anyone. The flaw was not just limited to the Galaxy S3 though. The Galaxy S2, Note 2, Note 10.1 and even possibly other devices using the same Exynos processor were also affected.
Together with the Exynos patch, certain other fixes to minor issues are included in the update. The “sudden death” issue that was first mentioned on Reddit causing Samsung devices to “brick”, refusing to turn on after a night of charging or when the screen has been turned off, has apparently also been patched.
