Sony adds 320kbps streaming to Music Unlimited on web, Android and PS3

Sony’s Music Unlimited, part of the Sony Entertainment Network, has been bumped up and now features high-quality 320kbps streaming for web surfing, Android and PS3, as reported by The Verge. Launched last year, the service was seen as a bit tongue-in-cheek for its 48kbps streaming, yet had an impressive collection of tunes available at an affordable price of US$12 per year.

While it used to be in the shadow of Spotify which has had 320kbps streaming on mobile devices, the jump up means a substantial improvement for Music Unlimited from the measly 48kbps. With more than 18 million tunes, the service is now a viable option for customers.

For now the upgrade is available on PS3, Android devices and the web, yet later in the year iOS, PlayStation Vita and desktop users will be able to stream the improved bitrate as well. Currently it seems subscriptions will remain at US$12, with non PlayStation Plus members still able to enjoy the service at the (slightly exuberant) price of US$59.99.
