Ouya the Android-powered console launches June for US$99
Remember Ouya, the Android console seemingly gifted to us from the geek-gods? Well it’s coming June 2013 for US$99 and it’s available for pre-order right bloody now.
Kickstarter was its origin and the creators of Ouya asked for a humble US$95 000. The project was a runaway success, with current funding at an astonishing US$8 596 474. Just, wow. And all that for an Android-powered console. This video nicely sums up the secrets of Ouya’s Android-goodness.
So, while the console and gamepad will cost US$99, adding an extra controller will set gamers back US$50. Still not a bad deal for a system that is streaming Android games. But this is the future my friends. Connecting an Android-based device to a TV is the new black, with Nvidia’s Project Shield leading the way. So can streaming Android consoles beat the big daddies, such as the Xbox, PS3 and Wii U? 2013 is shaping up to be a challenging year for gamers, and ultimately, it will be the screaming, pimply masses who decide upon the winner.
