THL releases ‘Monkey King’ with dual 13 mp camera for the perfect selfies
The Chinese company THL unveiled the W11 — its take on the self-involved market. Also known as the Monkey King, this dual 13 mp camera phone hosts a decent package of specs and will seamlessly double up as a personal compact sans powder.
The THL smartphone looks pretty impressive based on the pictures. The company is usually known for its knock-off releases that obviously enjoy treading close to copyright borders of HTC and the likes. This one though, easily caught our notice.
Officially launched today, the Monkey King — as it’s called, hosts a dual 13-mp camera. So those who aim to look your closeup best Skyping away will enjoy this feature quite a bunch. Both the front and rear cameras have flash which is weird but also almost laughable.
It’s not the first though. Vivo, another Chinese manufacturer, released the Y19t earlier this month which came out in shocking pink and held a 5-mp front camera with flash. This and similar competition, the Monkey King will aptly bash away.
Apart from this unique selling point, the King has a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU powering a new 5-inch 1080p display at 1920×1080. It has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in memory. The battery is not that impressive coming in at 2 100 mAh. This, as well as the plastic build quality, will probably make certain people look elsewhere.
Apart from the self-obsessed target market — what’s up with the name? The ‘Monkey King.’ Although we love it, it probably has a better ring to it in Mandarin as it’s derived from the classic Chinese novel– Journey to the West according to Engadget. Not to be confused with this Monkey King movie:
Though you might be tempted by the price. Sold in China, for now, the price goes for US$280 which is not bad at all. It’s making its way to Chinese school girl purses and the like on 17 July.
