PlayStation 4 officially launches in South Africa today for R6300, says SA-based cinema company Ster Kinekor. Since the official launch in the US 15 November, Sony’s next-gen console has broken sales records across the globe and is being hailed by gaming critics as being a console built for gamers and inspired by developers.
At the beginning of this month, Sony announced that the console has “broke the record” by selling more than 2.1-million PS4 consoles sold since launch.
Sony’s next-gen console will be available together with a saucy lineup of over 20 games including Knack, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. In total, the PS4 system will have a library of over 30 games by the end of the year.
The PS Plus membership service is required for online gaming and further enhanced the PS4 experience. For instance, PS Plus members have access to Resogun and Contrast to download for free today. PS Plus is available for either US$50 for a 12 month subscription or US$18 for three.

During the announcement of Sony’s record-breaking console sales President and Group CEO of Sony Andrew House said, “The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible line-up of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead.”
It’s greatest rival, Microsoft’s Xbox One, still hasn’t received an official release date for South Africa and other emerging markets.
