Sony’s next flagship handset, dubbed the Xperia Z3, will likely get a smaller, more compact version as per current mobile manufacturing and sales trends suggest. Thanks to a recent leak from an Indian XDA developer, we may now know exactly what to expect from the so-called “Z3 Compact” when, or if, it launches.

Earlier this week, the web was treated to leaked images of the device that showed both the new 1080p, 3GB RAM Xperia Z3 and the smaller variant, called the “Compact.” Twitter tipster @DooMLoRD_XDA tweeted some juicy statistics of the smaller iteration.

As per the leak, the Android KitKat device will sport a 4.5″ 720×1280 display, use a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 Soc and an Adreno 330 GPU. Alongside this, 2GB RAM will be offered as well — 512MB more than the Galaxy S5 Mini, while the front facing camera features a 2.1MP sensor. The real killer feature though is undoubtedly the 20.7MP rear snapper — possibly the same Exmor RS unit fitted to the Z2.
After Sony’s earlier downsizing, the company now seems to be concentrating primarily on mobile devices. The Xperia Z2 was a victim of its own success, with Sony floundering at one point to meet massive sales demands for the 1080p phone. The specs put the phone in the midst of Samsung and Apple’s upcoming war between the Galaxy S5 Mini and the yet-to-be-released iPhone 6 4.7″.
No information regarding availability has been given, and Sony has not made any official announcements regarding the device as yet, but expect news to trickle through as the Japanese company readies production.
