TrackTag shatters Kickstarter funding goal by fivefold in first few days

There are some deliciously interesting tech ideas on Kickstarter but often the most successful projects are the most simple or the ones that solve mundane day-to-day problems. Backers clearly lose things more often than not if the TrackTag‘s overnight popularity is a gauge. Funding out of Copenhagen, Denmark, but based in the Indian city of Pune, the company known as TrackTags is making a splash on the crowdfunding platform.

In just a few days, the project has already amassed around five times its initial goal. It’s promising growth, but it isn’t a device or a concept that hasn’t been thought of before.

Tracking tags have been all the rage last year, with products like Tile and XY enjoying their fair share of time in the spotlight, and that trend will likely continue into this year with Bluetooth 4.0 LE and its successors.

The TrackTag itself is waterproof, has a range of around 100m and has a rather nifty Android and iOS app that tracks items previous positions, lets you tally what’s on your person before leaving the house and the tag itself won’t require a recharge for around three months.

For now, the device can be had for US$19 with shipping commencing in May 2015. Considering that’s a mere four months away, this is one rapidly moving project.

We’ll have to wait and see exactly how successful this project will be, but judging by its massive initial growth spurt, it seems incredibly popular. At least tech companies are addressing the age old habit of human negligence.
