‘Crysis: Analogue Edition’ board game now on Kickstarter

A popular trend over the years is converting popular video games into board games. Some of the more notable properties are Gears of War, Doom, X-Com, Bioshock: Infinite, and Civilization. Crysis is the latest game to receive the tabletop treatment.

Crysis: Analogue Edition is marketed as a tactical board game for 2-8 players. The game will feature two gameplay variants: Team Instant Action, which is standard death match, and Capture the Relay, a team capture the flag mode. Set during the events of Crysis 3, players will be able to play as either the US Special Forces or Cell as their team of choice.

Gameplay is relatively basic, but will prove to be tactical. All primary actions are card driven, which consists of tactic or manoeuvre cards. The card will allow players to move or attack. During attack, the outcome is decided by a customised 6-sided dice.

As with the core Crysis gameplay, each player has either own Nano suit. These suits give you different boosts, such as moving further or jumping over obstacles. Suits will add another layer of tactics over the standard card system.

The project is currently on Kickstarter and as of writing has reached just over a quarter of its required backing.

As fantastic as these games are – Gears of War: The Board Game is a personal favourite of mine – they can be a hard sell to customers. Fans of the video game aren’t often interested in board games and board game players can view these as cheap cash-ins.
