Samsung Gear VR now boasts a million users, Oculus reveals
The Samsung Gear VR now has now hit a million users, Facebook-owned Oculus announced.
“It’s been nearly six months since Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus launched worldwide,” Oculus revealed in a blog post.
“Over one million people used Gear VR last month to experience the incredible collection of immersive games, videos, and experiences available on the Oculus platform.”
The virtual reality headset, co-developed by Oculus, is quite the success story for both Facebook and Samsung. It’s indicative of how users of the latter’s smartphones are adopting virtual reality experiences.

Oculus also revealed just how much content is consumed by Samsung Gear VR users: “Seven of the top 10 most used apps are videos and, on any given day, nearly 80% of people who use Gear VR watch video content.”
While the user figure isn’t quite indicative of how many consumers have purchased the Gear VR itself (Samsung did give the headset to those who pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S7), it definitely suggests that virtual reality is an ever-growing industry (especially for Samsung).
