LG X Screen, Stylus 2 now in South African stores

LG

If you thought Sony was the only company launching a device with an X in its name, think again. LG, less than three months after it began shipping the G5 to South Africa, is introducing two new devices to the country, dubbed the LG X Screen and the LG Stylus 2.

Both devices will prop up the company’s mid-range, and compete against Samsung, Sony and Huawei’s new offerings.

LG X Screen

To differentiate its mid-ranger from the pack, LG’s X Screen boasts two screens, one 4.93-inch Full HD panel and another above it, with a 80×520 resolution. The latter is used for notifications, alerts, icons and other quickly accessible info.

Beyond this though, the phone doesn’t impress on the hardware front.

You’ll get 2GB of RAM and 16GB of (microSD expandable) internal storage, but LG’s still using Qualcomm’s fairly-dated and unbelieveably slow Snapdragon 410 processor.

If speed isn’t a worry for you, the phone does pack a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera, and an 8MP front camera, a 2300mAh battery and a dual-SIM setup (only if you don’t use a microSD card though).

LG Stylus 2

The Stylus 2 is the (obvious) sequel to the Stylus which we reviewed and particularly enjoyed last year. And in 2016, the phone hasn’t changed much at all.

There’s still a 5.7-inch 720p screen with a stylus, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, and a stylus tucked away in the phone’s corner. More importantly though, the RAM gets a bump up to 2GB, and LG now gives users 16GB of internal storage (with a microSD expansion option).

The cameras also get an upgrade, and mirrors the LG X Screen’s setup, while the battery boasts a 700mAh boost over its two-screened sibling.

Both phones are currently available in South Africa, but they’re definitely not in the budget range. The LG Stylus 2 will fetch R4200, while the LG X Screen will retail at R4499.
