Nintendo NX will be portable, home console hybrid powered by Nvidia – report

Big news in the upcoming console war: the Nintendo NX will be a portable-home console hybrid, Eurogamer reports.

The media house’s sources confirmed that the Japanese company’s console will be unlike anything we’ve seen this decade, and will likely put the cat among the pigeons in the upcoming generation.

According to the report, the console will be powered by the Nvidia Tegra X1 SoC, while the screen will be “bookended by two controller sections on either side, which can be attached or detached as required.” For those users gaming on the go, “when you get home, the system can connect to your TV for gaming on the big screen,” the publication clarifies.

The Nintendo NX will be portable, boasting a central screen with two detachable controllers

This sounds a bit like a Nintendo Wii U controller, doesn’t it?

We’re also not too sure how the Nvidia Tegra will be cooled while on the go, but there are definitely more questions to be asked here.

Additionally, the console will also use cartridges used by the likes of the Nintendo 3DS — the advantages here are obvious when considering that the Nintendo NX will be portable as well.

Nintendo hasn’t yet made any mention of any of the specifics above, but there has been mention that the console would be a portable hybrid in previous rumours.

Nevertheless, the Nintendo NX will arrive in 2017.

Have a look at the full report over on Eurogamer.
