If you know your Korean tech space fairly well, Samsung and LG almost never see eye-to-eye. After the two companies’ television spat earlier this year, it seemed that the two giants would never ever kiss and make up.
But that’s about to change, according to a Korean media report.

Following the Samsung Galaxy Note 7‘s battery woes, the company might be looking elsewhere, and LG is on its radar. And this move could be made in time for the Samsung Galaxy S8.
“We are looking at diverse suppliers, including LG Chem,” a Samsung rep was quoted by Maeil Business Newspaper.
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 could be using LG’s battery technology
“Sources say it still needs to be seen until the final deal is inked between Samsung and LG, the compatriot rivals competing in almost all consumer electronics products ranging from smartphones to home appliances and TVs,” the Korea Herald explains in the same article.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen rival tech companies working together. In fact, Samsung probably does this more often than most. It manufactures Apple‘s A-series chips in its iPhone and iPad ranges, while the company also builds a number of camera sensors for the likes of Meizu.
But LG though? Sure, it’s a large, desperate leap for Samsung — a company that has lost close to US$10-billion in the past month alone — but it seems that desperate times call for desperate measures.
