Exclusive: ZTE Axon 7 Mini gets SA launch date, price
Chinese mobile firm ZTE has confirmed launch details and pricing for the ZTE Axon 7 Mini smartphone in South Africa.
Three representatives at AfricaCom told Gearburn that the Axon 7 Mini would be coming to the country in December, being available from the likes of Edcon and TFG.
As for a price, the representatives said that the phone would be coming in at R6999. The phone has a US$300 price tag in the USA.
What about the Axon 7 though? Well, the company has mooted a January launch instead.
The two phones stand out from the pack thanks to a rather fetching metal design as well as front-facing speakers akin to the original HTC One.
The ZTE Axon 7 Mini won’t be cheap, especially with the lacklustre chipset
The ZTE Axon 7 features a Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB RAM, 3250mAh battery, 64GB of expandable storage and a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 AMOLED screen. It makes for a great VR platform then, as ZTE is working with Google to make the device Daydream-ready.
The flagship also stands out thanks to the cameras, featuring a 20MP f/1.8 OIS-enabled main shooter and 8MP selfie camera. In fact, the main camera stands out thanks to its ability to shoot 4K video and 240FPS slow-motion.
As for the ZTE Axon 7 Mini, you’re looking at a handset with a 5.2-inch full HD AMOLED display, a capable but not fantastic Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB of expandable storage and a 3205mAh battery.
The phone also packs a 16MP f/1.9 main camera and 8MP selfie shooter.
Otherwise, both handsets feature a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, hybrid SIM slots and some solid audio hardware for playback and recording. In fact, the larger Axon joins the HTC 10 and LG V20 in having HiFi or Hi-Res Audio recording capabilities.
