MWC 2017: you may have missed these smartphones
Mobile World Congress (MWC) has seen all the big players reveal their smartphones, with the likes of Huawei, LG, HMD Global and more delivering the goods.
But the event is massive and, inevitably, some phones fall through the cracks. With that in mind, we look at a few devices you may have missed.
Sony
The Xperia XZ Premium may have received all the attention, owing to its 4K HDR screen and 960fps super slow-motion capabilities, but the Xperia XZs deserves some love as well.
Sony’s other high-end phone at MWC sticks with a 1080p display, but keeps the 960fps slow-motion feature and 19MP main camera otherwise. Other features include a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 2900mAh battery and IP65/68 water resistance.
The company also had a few phones for mid-range buyers, in the form of the Xperia XA1 and XA 1 Ultra. Powered by Helio P20 chips and 3GB or 4GB of RAM respectively, these handsets are a step below the XZ Premium and XZs. Both of the phones also pack a 23MP main camera and start at 32GB of storage.
Otherwise, the XA1 has a 5-inch 720p display and 8MP selfie shooter while the Ultra has a massive 6-inch full HD screen and 16MP front-facing camera.
Lenovo
Lenovo’s Moto G5 and G5 Plus were leaked well before their MWC appearances, but we’re still pretty happy to see them anyway.
The G5 and G5 Plus are crafted out of metal, feature fast front-mounted fingerprint scanners, water-repellant coatings and Android 7.0.
As for the differences? For starters, the G5 comes with a low-end Snapdragon 430 chip, your choice of 2GB or 3GB of RAM, a 5-inch full HD screen, 16GB expandable storage and a 2800mAh battery. Meanwhile, the G5 Plus packs a power-sipping but capable Snapdragon 625 chip, 3GB of RAM, a 5.2-inch full HD screen, 32GB of expandable storage and a 3000mAh battery.
The camera department sees a few differences too, in the form of a 13MP f/2.0 main shooter and 5MP selfie camera on the vanilla G5. The Plus model sees Lenovo deliver a 12MP f/1.7 main shooter and 5MP selfie camera.
HiSense
Yep, HiSense had a presence at MWC as well, having showed off its e-ink-toting A2 smartphone again.
But the C30 Rock handset was revealed for the first time, being a successor of sorts to the KO smartphone. So what are you getting then?
Well, you’ve got a Snapdragon 430 chip, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 5.2-inch full HD screen — all encased in a shockproof IP68 design. Other features include a 16MP main camera, 5MP selfie shooter, 3000mAh battery and Android Nougat. Local representatives have confirmed that the C30 Rock is getting an SA release.
