Exclusive: OnePlus 5 set for July launch in South Africa
The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were two of the more affordable flagships of 2016, making their way to South Africa via Takealot.
Of course, it was recently announced that the OnePlus 5 was indeed coming. It’s not called the OnePlus 4 as the number is considered bad luck in China, the manufacturer explained.
Now, Takealot has confirmed to Gearburn that the OnePlus 5 will be launching locally as well.
“We should have our first batch arrive in South Africa in July; dates are not 100% confirmed but could be as early as the first or second week in July,” a representative told us in response to an email query.
The OnePlus 5 will be released in South Africa in July, Takealot said
“As soon as orders open up and the RRP [recommended retail price – ed] amount is confirmed, we’ll keep you in the loop.”
The price hasn’t been revealed yet (both internationally and locally), but last year’s OnePlus 3 had a US$400 price point. Takealot sold the phone for R10 999 at launch but, at the time of writing, it’s selling for R9199. The OnePlus 3T still maintains the original price though.
Final OnePlus 5 specs aren’t confirmed yet, but online retailers claim a Snapdragon 835 chip, 8GB of RAM (?!), a 5.5-inch 1440p screen and 4000mAh battery.
