Nintendo Switch tops hardware sales in US for third straight month
The Nintendo Switch enjoyed a fantastic launch, as units flew off shelves around the world. The big question is whether that momentum can be sustained, and the answer thus far is yes.
US sales figures released by the NPD Group show that the console is at the top of the charts for September. When you combine Switch, SNES Mini and 3DS sales, Nintendo systems account for two-thirds of all hardware sales for the month. Whichever way you cut it, that’s a huge slice of the pie.
“This marks the third straight month that Nintendo Switch has been number one, and the fifth time overall in the seven months since its launch,” NPD Group wrote in a press statement.
The Nintendo Switch has topped US charts for the third straight month — too early to draw Wii comparisons?
As for popular games? Mario+Rabbids was at number seven, Breath of the Wild was at number 10 and Metroid: Samus Returns (for 3DS) was at number eight.
The analytics firm also pointed out that the console hasn’t gone through a single holiday shopping season yet. And the gaming world is expecting even better results thanks to a slew of anticipated releases during this period.
The following weeks and months will see Super Mario Odyssey, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Doom and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 all hitting the Switch. In other words, you might want to buy that Switch now rather than waiting for mid-December.
