Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 official: it’s basically a cheaper S8

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 (review) brought a great design to the table, even if it does feel a little fragile. Now, the company is bringing some of these features to the Galaxy A8 and A8+2018.

The Galaxy A8 2018 series offers the same 18.5:9 screen ratio and tiny borders as the 2017 flagship, being more evidence of these trends coming to cheaper devices. The vanilla A8 offers a 5.6-inch 2220×1080 display while the A8+ offers the same resolution but cranks the size to six inches.

Samsung has also slapped a dual-front camera on the device (16MP+8MP f/1.9), capable of portrait selfies and adjustable depth of field effects. As for the main camera, you’re getting a 16MP main camera with a wide f/1.7 aperture. Despite being a higher resolution, we assume that the main sensor and/or pixel size is smaller than the Galaxy S8 sensor/pixel size.

In terms of other features, you can expect an IP68 water/dust resistant design, an unspecified octacore chip (dual core 2.2Ghz plus hexacore 1.6Ghz), 4GB/6GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, a 3000mAh (A8) or 3500mAh (A8+) battery and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

It’s also worth noting that the A8 2018 phones feature support for the Gear VR headset, with a few great titles on the platform.

Pricing hasn’t been revealed, but for the record, the Galaxy A7 2017 launched at a rather pricey R9499.
