Samsung Galaxy S9 outsold the iPhone X globally in April 2018

According to research from data firm Counterpoint, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are the world’s biggest selling smartphones in April 2018.
The two devices beat Apple’s 2018 smartphone arsenal — the iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 — by a little over 0.3% market share. Notably though, the next most popular device came from Xiaomi, in the Redmi 5A.
But it’s not the only Xiaomi on the list.
Flanking the iPhone 6 — yes, and it’s outselling the iPhone 7 — is the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Note 5 Plus.
“This is the first time Xiaomi grabbed two positions within the top ten model list. Xiaomi grew both in China and India due to its affordable smartphones,” Counterpoint writes in a release.
But Apple’s loss is something we see fairly regularly, due to the lull in its annual release cycle. Nevertheless, it remains the biggest selling smartphone marque on the planet.
