According to reports, the Huawei Mate 30 series will launch on 19 September, complete with a sparkly new chipset.

The info comes via Wang Chenglu, Huawei’s software development president according to Russian news site Hi-tech.

As far as timing’s concerned, Huawei traditionally debuts the Mate line in September or October, and usually they sport newer hardware, so the date isn’t really of any surprise.

It also unveiled the Kirin 980 last year at Berlin’s IFA tech conference in September.

However, what is surprising is the name. The chip was long believed to be called the Kirin 985, but perhaps this is just the marketing department and not reflective of any major hardware tweaks.

Either way, the chip will be manufactured by TSMC using its 7nm EUV process.
