Huawei is set to launch a new foldable phone, even before it launches its first in key markets. Dubbed the Huawei Mate Xs, the announcement was detailed in a report by Droidholic on Wednesday (spotted by GSMArena).

According to the report, the phone will be an “upgrade” of the Huawei Mate X, and feature the beefier Kirin 990 5G chipset.

The Mate X is currently powered by the Kirin 980, the same chip (sans 5G support) commanding the Huawei Nova 5T arriving in South Africa next month.

Beyond the silicon, it’s not clear what else is different about the Mate Xs over the Mate X.

After reports emerged of a possible delay, the Mate X was this week announced in China for the equivalent price of $2400 — nearly $500 more than the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

According to Droidholic, the Huawei Mate Xs can be expected to debut — in China at least — in March 2020.
