The Sony Xperia 1 may have been announced in February, but this month, the Japanese firm is giving the flagship a refresh. A very expensive refresh.
Dubbed the Sony Xperia 1 Professional Edition, it boasts a few additions to cater for graphic designers and photographers.

For one, that 4K OLED display now features support for 10-bit signals.
The phone’s USB-C port also has support for LAN connections, however, you’ll need to purchase a dongle. For some reason, Sony neglects to include it.
And the other big addition is the inclusion of Imaging Edge Mobile Transfer, which allows Sony camera users to interface with the phone. Users can send and receive images from the camera to the phone, and tag them with relevant data.
But that’s about it.
The phone still features its stock specs, including a 3330mAh battery, a Snapdragon 855 chipset, 128GB of internal storage, 6GB of RAM, and those three rear camears.
Nevertheless, all this will cost more than $1300. That’s insane.
For now, the Sony Xperia 1 Professional Edition will only be offered in Japan, and that’s probably a good thing. On paper, it looks like a terrible deal for all but the most acute market segment.
As for those wanting to get the standard Xperia 1, we’re still waiting in South Africa, even though the phone was set to launch in the country back in July.
