We’re not sure if they’ll be available, from which store or for how much, but if they are reduced, be sure to consider them.

Lenovo IdeaPad S130 (11)

Here’s a personal recommendation. I purchased this little guy in October for around R3200. That’s still well below list price, but I believe if the Black Friday gods shine down upon you, you may be able to snap it up for cheaper.

It’s an excellent travel machine, with 8+ hour battery life, a lovely keyboard and decent specs for daily workloads.

We’re currently penning a more intricate review of this machine, so look forward to that in the coming weeks.

Nintendo Switch Lite

The smaller, lighter travel-friendly version of the Switch, the Lite has a lot of things going for it. For one, there are no finicky Joy-Cons to worry about. There’s also a D-Pad, a longer battery life than the Switch and a much lighter frame.

We’d argue it’s a better machine than the Switch itself, and an absolute must buy if you can find it below R3800.

Sandisk Ultra 128GB microSD card

Currently listed for R269 on Takealot, we won’t be surprised if these cards drop below R200 next year.

Just a few months ago, a 128GB card fetched around R400, but keep a close eye on this model and other 128GB microSD card products, especially if you’ve invested in a Switch.

WD Green 240GB SSD

SSDs have plummeted in price this year, and we’re here for it. The 240GB drive from WD offers the perfect balance between capacity and value, and at around R600, we could see it drop to around R500.

If you do happen to be so lucky to find a deal like this online, snap it up. Even if you don’t have a PC, these drives can be used to replace your ageing mechanical drive in your laptop.

Ematic Android TV Box

It’s difficult to find a negative review online about this box, and that’s saying a lot.

One of the few Google certified Android TV boxes available in SA, the Ematic also sports some decent specs, including a quad-core Amlogic chipset, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.

Currently listed for around R1300, snap it up for sure if it nears or dips below R1000. And please, call me if it does.

Huawei P30 Lite

There’s a lot of hype surrounding the P30 Pro and Nova 5T, but the P30 Lite is probably the phone best suited to most people.

Its biggest drawcards is its lengthy battery life, 6.1-inch display, and 128GB of internal storage. While the cameras aren’t stellar, they’ll be enough for social sharing.

I’ve found this phone listed for an average of around R5000 this year, down from its R5499 RRP. But it’s worth considering if it dips into the R4500 range, especially considering that most competitors are slightly more expensive.

JBL Go 2

Most Bluetooth speakers sacrifice sound quality for size, but the Go 2 somehow gets away with murder here. It’s tiny, perfect for summer, but has audio quality that can still be respected at the annual family gathering.

Usually listed for around R500, snap it up if it dips into the R399 range. We’ve seen it for that price before the Rand’s mood swung earlier this year.

Any one of these UPSs

Eskom will likely be among one of the least popular words in South Africa going into the next decade, so you really should prepare.

When the lights go out on Black Friday, we hope that some stores will discount their UPSs, or uninterupted power supplies.

Earlier this year, we penned an article listing some of the most popular in South Africa at three price points. If any of these three are discounted, grab them and don’t let go.

Samsung Galaxy Buds

There are too many true wireless earphone options on the market right now, and that’s a good thing if you want competition. It’s bad if you’re wondering what to get during Black Friday.

Personally, I gravitate towards the Galaxy Buds. They’re more discrete than AirPods or any other model, and offer some decent sound quality.

But, if taking calls are important to you, maybe consider Apple’s offering.

If audio quality is important to you, consider the Klipsch T5 True buds, but they are a great deal more expensive than both at R3700.

The Galaxy Buds can be found for R2200, but we’d snap them up immediately if they dropped below R2000 this coming Friday.

Fujifilm Instax Mini 9

It might be a silly device that you’ll never get full use out of (largely thanks to the cost of the film), the Instax Mini 9 is great for doing what cameras are supposed to do: capture moments.

These snappers alone can go for just over R1000, but we have spied a few bundle deals this year which include a carrying bag, and a few packs of film.

Given a 10 pack of film costs around R160 each, we reckon getting a bundle for around R1000 is a trade-off.

iPhone 11 Pro

One of the few flagship phones in 2019 with a screen size below six inches, the 11 Pro also stuffs another wide-angle camera lens at the back compared to the 11, and fits an OLED display up front too.

It’s an all-round powerhouse of a device, especially if you’re not already fully invested in the Android ecosystem.

You can find one in South Africa for R22 000 with 64GB of internal storage. But if you manage to get one anywhere near the R20 000 mark, it may be worth considering.

We don’t expect to see massive price drops for Apple products, so it’s going to be another “take what you can get” scenario this year.
