Galaxy Z Flip sells out in SA: Samsung’s limited run of phones are all gone

If you’re looking for a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip in South Africa, you may have to wait until next month.

The company on Tuesday announced its latest foldable phone has sold out in South Africa, echoing a similar situation we saw when the Galaxy Fold launched.

This was to be expected though. At the phone’s launch event earlier this month, Samsung’s Justin Hume made it clear that a limited number of devices would be made available on 22 February, ahead of its official March launch date.

While it shares its foldable flex with the Galaxy Fold, the Z Flip differs in design and price.

It folds like an old-school flip phone would, transforming it from a small clamshell into a large 20:9 smartphone.

It’s also much cheaper than the Galaxy Fold. While the Fold retailed for just under R45 000, the Z Flip is R15 000 less.

We’ve reached out to Samsung with exact sales numbers, but have yet to receive a reply at the time of writing.

The Galaxy Z Flip is expected to launch official in South Africa alongside the Galaxy S20 range next month.
