The Huawei Y5p is now available in South Africa — with a price that makes it the company’s most affordable smartphone to date.
The launch of the Y5p follows last month’s P40 lite 5G release. Huawei also launched its Y6p smartphone on 1 July.

Among its features, the Y5p includes a 5.45-inch display, a 3020mAh battery, and an 8MP main camera. It also has a 5MP selfie camera.
“The Huawei Y5p is an all-rounder that is also extremely affordable – making it the perfect phone for cash-strapped South Africans who want a smartphone at a good price, but don’t want to sacrifice quality or features,” the company said in a statement.
The company has been on a blitz with product releases in South Africa in recent months.
Releases include the P40 series, the MatePad T8, the newly launched P40 Pro +, the MateBook D14 and MateBook D15, and the Watch GT 2e.
However, rather than competing with premium devices, the Y5p is focusing on affordability first.
While it doesn’t have a multi-lens main camera setup or fingerprint reader, it does come with EMUI 10.1 (based on Android 10).
