Of these smartphones, the A72 is the first to launch. The Oppo A53s and A15 will follow later in the year.
In the face of rising technology prices, the brand’s launch will likely be welcomed by residents looking for more affordable smartphones.
“OPPO is committed to offering South African businesses and consumers the best technology experience possible and is excited to enter this vibrant market,” says Sam Zhang, CEO of Oppo South Africa.
“This is an important moment in our collective history and through forging strong relationships with our partners, we aim to equip our society with the tools it needs to prosper.”
Oppo is one of the top five smartphone brands in the world, alone with Huawei, Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi.
“We’re confident that the quality of our hardware, value-added services and our strong partnership with Google will set us apart,” says Liam Faurie, Oppo South Africa’s Business Head (GTM Operations).
The smartphone maker plans to launch its mid-range and affordable devices first, with premium devices to come to South Africa at a later date.
