TCL South Africa has announced the launch of its Mini LED TVs locally in July, making the new devices the first Mini LED televisions that the company has launched in the country.
The technology company entered the SA television market in 2021, with the launch of a range of affordable smart TVs.

This included its 4K QLED C725 smart TV in November. The TVs arriving in July will be the first Mini LED models that TCL has introduced locally.
Here’s what to know about the launch…
TCL C835 Mini LED TVs
The models launching in South Africa are the 55-inch and 65-inch models of the TCL C835 Mini LED 4K HDR Quantum Dot television.
“This is a huge step forward into the top premium TV panel segment in South Africa and one of our most anticipated products by consumers. We’re expecting a great response once our 55-inch and 65-inch units hit South African shores,” TCL South Africa’s Marketing Manager Ryan Curling said in a statement.
“This July 2022, TCL South Africa is taking another big step forward by applying 144Hz refresh rate to its 2022 premium Mini LED TV models, providing faster responsiveness, sharper imagery, and smoother gameplay,” he added.
The TVs are aimed at providing a premium experience for movie-lovers, but also gamers who want a higher refresh rate for playing fast-paced titles.
They feature Mini LEDs, which provide local dimming. This technology can enhance the contrast of images and prevent light from bleeding into shadows.
The Quantum Dot televisions are also HDR10+ certified and support Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision IQ.
The TVs also feature HDMI 2.1 ports, which is good news for owners of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. This HDMI standard supports the higher framerates provided by next-gen consoles, but many TVs still sport the older HDMI 2 ports.
However, we’re still waiting on the price from TCL for the new TVs.
It will be interesting to see how the prices compete with other Mini LED products available locally.
