WATCH: Google launches Pixel phone lineup, and first ever Pixel smartwatch

Google has launched the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and its first ever Pixel smartwatch to complement its launch this week.

It was in October 2016 that Google introduced the Pixel smartphones, the Pixel and the Pixel XL.

The handsets software optimization received massive appeal introducing Google as a name brand in smartphone production.

Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

Fast track to 2022, and Google has released its new upgrades from the Pixel 6, the Pixel 7, and the Pixel 7 Pro.

Improved features such as the camera, the battery and the screens, indicates an upward trajectory for Google in the phone making department.

Pixel 7

The Pixel 7 comes in three colours, obsidian, lemongrass and snow, with OLED display, aluminum frame and a 6.3 inch glass back.

Retailing at $599, translated to around R 11 000 the Pixel 7 seems ready to take on major competitors.

Operating on the Tensor G2 chipset, the Pixel 7 still has 8GB RAM with an option for a 128 GB and 256GB storage.

The Pixel 7 is slightly smaller than it’s predecessor at dimensions 155.6 x 73.2 x 8.7mm and weighing 197g, while its predecessor measured 158.6 x 74.8 x 8.9mm at 207g.

Pixel 7 Pro

The Pixel Pro seems like the best smartphone release from Google.

With a sharp display, a distinctive look and Google software support the phone just may be a major contender in it’s class.

It also runs on a Tensor G2 chipset, 2x cortex x1 cores, optical image stabilization, 4K videos at 30 fps and 60 fps, and higher quality videos.

High speed machine learning capabilities thanks to its G2 chipset, which assist in stabilizing cinematic blur’s.

A 50MP wide lens, 12 MP ultrawide lens with auto focus and 48 MP telephoto lens with up to 3x zoom resolution.

AMOLED display, Gorilla Glass Victus casing and fingerprint reader make the Pro very convenient to have.

The Pixel 7 Pro comes in three colours, snow, obsidian and hazel and retails at $899 which translates to around R17 000.

 

Pixel watch

In it’s first ever watch launch Google introduces its 43mm Pixel watch in Gorilla Glass display.

With Fitbit capability the watch has around 40 workout modes and a handful of google savvy services such as Google wallet, Gmail and calendar updates.

It comes in gold, black and silver and will cost users $349 which translates to R 7000 for the Bluetooth version and $399 (R 7200) for the 4G LTE version.

Rumour has it Google is also planning to introduce its Pixel tablet in 2023.
