Honor Magic V2 gets an interesting AI update with MagicOS 8.0
Consumer group Honor introduces a tasteful upgrade in the form of a MagicOS 8.0 for the Honor Magic V2 series.
This update brings the power of android 14 with a unique twist in the form of an AI-powered intent-based user interface (IUI) called MagicOS.
This interface promises to simplify and enhance the user experience with a range of on-device AI features.
According to Counterpoint Research, global foldable phone shipments surged by 49% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024. This marks the highest growth rate in the past year and a half, fueled in large part by Chinese manufacturers like Honor.
Honor has experienced growth overseas, jumping from a 3% market share in Q1 2023 to a commanding 12% in Q1 2024, solidifying its position as the third-largest player in the foldable phone arena.
The update means the Honor Magic V2 with the update will be a serious contender in the foldable phone space.
The MagicOS uptick introduces a novel way for users to interact with notifications. This feature leverages the touchscreen and takes human factors into account. When you tap on a notification at the top of the screen, the Magic capsule expands to reveal additional information related to it. This eliminates the need to navigate through multiple apps such as call, timer, alarm, screen casting, etc. – to access relevant details.
Whether it’s finding directions or posting images on social media, users often have to jump through multiple hoops. This is where the Magic portal enters the scene. The AI-powered feature understands and anticipates user needs based on messages and behaviors. It then curates and recommends the most suitable system app for the task at hand.
For example, all you need to do is long-press a message in a chat app and drag it to the side of the screen. Magic portal will intelligently recommend the appropriate app, be it a map app for directions or a social media platform for sharing images.
This feature completely transforms how users access and interact with apps. It offers an intuitive and personalized experience that learns and improves over time.
Currently, the Magic portal supports over 100 popular apps across various categories, including travel, office, messaging, search, entertainment, shopping, and social media.
Upgrading to MagicOS 8.0 is a simple process. Just download and install the update from the settings menu on your Honor Magic V2.
With this update, Honor users in South Africa can experience a smarter and more intuitive way to interact with their smartphones.
Additionally, rumors suggest that the upcoming Honor 90 will also receive the MagicOS 8.0 update in June, further expanding the reach of this innovative user interface.
