Instagram Finally Comes to iPad with a Big Screen Experience

A Long Awaited Release
It is official. Instagram has launched a dedicated iPad app, answering years of requests from users who wanted a big screen experience. The new app reimagines the platform for iPadOS, giving people more ways to enjoy Reels, Stories, and updates from the accounts they follow.
“Instagram has always been about creativity and connection. With Instagram for iPad, we have optimized the experience for how people use bigger screens today,” the company said.
Reels First, Stories on Top
Instagram has leaned into entertainment for this launch. Open the app on iPad, and you drop directly into Reels, optimized for lean back viewing on larger screens. Stories sit at the top of the interface, keeping personal connections close, while messaging is just a tap away.
The New Following Tab
One of the standout additions is a Following tab designed for easier content discovery. It gives users three options to control their feed: All, which includes recommended posts and Reels from every account you follow; Friends, which shows content from accounts you follow that also follow you back; and Latest, which offers a chronological feed of the newest posts first.
This flexibility allows people to choose what matters most, whether that is staying close to friends or catching the freshest updates.
Designed for the Big Screen
The iPad app takes advantage of the larger display. Messaging and notifications are easier to navigate, with layouts that show multiple tabs at once. When watching Reels, users can expand comments while keeping the video full screen. Instagram says the goal was simple: more features with fewer taps, without losing the simplicity that has defined the app.
Availability
Instagram for iPad is now available worldwide for iPad models running iPadOS 15.1 or later. The app is free to download on the App Store.
With a redesigned layout, a new Following tab, and Reels at the center, Instagram for iPad is built to transform how users experience the platform. It is not just Instagram scaled up. It is a big screen rethinking of the world’s most popular social app.
