Huawei Nova launched in SA, but what about Plus?
Huawei’s Nova was launched last year, coming as an upper-mid range handset of sorts. But the company has finally brought the phone to South Africa, coming in at R6999.
The Nova packs a battery-sipping but not quite flagship Snapdragon 625 processor (seen in the power-efficient Moto Z Play), 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and 5-inch full HD screen.
The device also stands out thanks to its solid 12-megapixel main camera, with 1.25 micron pixels for better low-light shots on paper. Otherwise, the device packs an 8MP selfie shooter on the front.
Other notable specs include a 3080mAh battery and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

“Huawei Nova is an excellent device for South Africa’s youthful market with a growing share of smartphone users. These devices will bring new experiences to life with its incredible performance, design and camera features,” said Zhao Likun, general manager of Huawei South Africa’s consumer business group in an emailed statement.
The Chinese colossus has confirmed that the handset will be available from all networks.
Huawei’s South African representatives have also confirmed that the Nova Plus won’t be launching in the country. But one device that is a lock for the country is the Mate 9, with review units making their way to South African journalists this week.
We’ve received a Nova review unit and will put the device through its paces — expect our verdict in the coming weeks.
