LG V30: next flagship to use OLED screen from LG Display?
LG Display has apparently been ramping up production of OLED screens for a while now. In fact, recent reports claim that both Google and Apple are trying to make (or have made) lucrative deals for OLED screens.
Now, Korean-based publication The Investor reports that the LG V30 will also jump on the OLED bandwagon.
The publication cites industry sources for the news, with these sources saying that the new phone is expected to launch in September.
It would mark the first time that LG uses an OLED screen for its recent flagships. The G series and V series have traditionally used LCD technology instead.
“Most OLED screens produced at LG Display’s Gumi E5 plant in the second half will be used for its sister firm LG Electronics’ smartphones starting with the V30,” a source told the publication.
The source added that some of the LG OLED screens would also be supplied to Chinese mobile makers.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard reports of the kind either. In fact, the same publication reported last month that LG Display would be supplying panels for the LG V-series smartphone and Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi Note device.
We quite liked the LG V20, packing some great audio hardware and a capable camera. It’s not perfect though, so check out our review here.
