A Thief’s End: God of War breaks Nathan Drake’s PlayStation 4 sales record
So if you haven’t yet heard the billions of life forms across the solar system talking about it yet, God of War was released late April.
But while the game is getting people’s tongues wagging for critical reasons — apparently, it’s a bit of a masterpiece — it should for an entirely other reason.
The title sold more than 3.1-million copies in its first three days of global release. That, in turn, makes it the fastest selling PlayStation 4 exclusive ever.
“I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us,” wrote Shannon Studstill, the chief of God of War developer Santa Monica Studio.
“Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play.”
God of War’s success is staggering too, especially when compared to its exclusive siblings.
2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn itself sold 2.6-million copies in its first 14 days, and passed 7.6-million sales in February, a year after release.
While The Last Guardian — a title with more hype than logical camera controls — failed to impress.
Previous record holder, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sold 2.7-million units in its first week of release.
With Sony’s next exclusive Days Gone now delayed until 2019, Sony chiefs are probably hoping that Kratos’ dominance of the sales charts continue long into the year.
