Google’s new Pixel 3 is all about the AI
This week’s Google event introduced the company’s latest smartphones and other devices, with the company finally revealing the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL.
The two devices don’t differ much, with a 5.5 inch and 6.5 inch display seemingly the biggest difference between them.
Both smartphones possess a 12.2 MP dual-pixel camera at the rear and an 8PM at the front, and are equally capable of 4K video.
The devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and have 4GB RAM too, with an external storage capacity of 64GB and 128GB respectively.
“Pixel brings you the best of Google in a phone, powered by AI to deliver more helpful, thoughtful and enjoyable experiences,” said the company on its website.
These AI features include Top Shot in Pixel’s camera system, which “captures alternate shots in HDR+, then recommends the best one”.
Super Res Zoom is also used to minimise the grain on zoomed in photos and a group selfie feature allows you to capture a wider shot.
You can also use Google lens through the camera to “scan and translate text, find similar styles of clothing, or identify popular plants and animals”.
Like most devices, Pixel 3 has a well-being feature to help you understand and control the amount of time you spend on your phone, and a fast charge that the company claims can “give you seven hours of use in 15 minutes of charging”.
Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL, which come in Clearly White, Just Black and Not Pink colour variations are available for pre-order at US$799 and US$899 respectively.
