Minority Report UI aims for the mainstream
We don’t often notice when science fiction movie technologies come into real life.
The integration is so seamless and usually comes such a long time after the movie was produced that it takes someone to point it out and say, “Hey, you remember in that movie when they had that cool thing, well here it is.” And then you’re like, “Oh yeah, I remember that. Cool.”
Here’s something I’ve wanted since the second I saw it in Minority Report. It’s a new user interface that will change how we interact with all technologies: the gesture interface.
Say goodbye to using a mouse or a keyboard. Say goodbye to using cables to transfer data from one machine to another. The technology is here, and will be in use within the decade. This is far sooner than Minority Report‘s 2054 setting. In fact, the technology that you saw in Minority Report was actually developed for the movie. This is no sci-fi technology. This is now.
