Amazon threatens with 6 new tablets, cue rolling eyes
According to US retail store Staples, Amazon is readying for not only a new Kindle Tablet, but six new devices. Or is it?
Staples has listed six new SKUs or Stock Keeping Units. Now, it could point to six new devices, but it may also mean that six versions of similar tablets will soon be available.
Let’s say that there’ll be six shiny tablets from Amazon. What’s it’s goal then, to saturate the market with everything from a 4.5-inch tablet (commonly known as a smartphone) to an 82-inch replacement for an HD TV?
This is what we think. There’ll be two new Amazon tablets, obviously an upgrade to the 7-inch Kindle Fire and a newer 10-incher, according to sources. In this event, there’ll be a 16/32/64GB model of each version. Other SKU’s may include with or without 3G.
And then there’s Lab126, maker of the original Kindle Fire listing jobs for an mystery mobile phone project. Robert Brunner, an ex-Kindle designer is confident that Lab126 is posting jobs to bolster its smartphone project. “They are there to develop other devices. Knowing what I know about Jeff Bezos and Amazon, it’s likely they are doing a smart phone.”
We peeked at Lab126’s LinkedIn job offerings and found a twinkling of evidence. Lab126 is actively searching for an RF test engineer. These fine people create wireless tech found inside the phones. It’s a tenuous link, but it’s something.
