Toyota’s new versions of the FT-1 are pure, menacing awesomeness
At the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, there was near universal agreement that Toyota should absolutely put the FT-1 concept it showed off there into production.
Now it looks like it’s taken a small step in that direction with the unveiling of a new version of the concept at the Gordon McCall’s Motorworks Revival gala held in Monterey, California and the differences are striking.
While the first FT-1 looked like the embodiment of sports-car freedom in red, the new version looks menacing and shark-like in graphite. The interior has also been modified from the FT-1 we saw in Detroit.
Out goes the two-tone red and black trim and in comes the naturally grained, tan-coloured leather. According to Toyota, this gives it “a more sophisticated feel”.
At the same time it revealed two new versions of the FT-1 will be available for download virtually inside Gran Turismo 6 (GT6) come September. The new graphite version will join its red sibling as well as an ultra high-performance race version of the FT-1 that inside the game is called the FT-1 “Vision GT”, designed by Calty.
Now for the love of all that is good in the world, we just hope that its next step is to actually put the damn thing into production.
