Here it is: the McLaren 570S Coupe

McLaren has lifted the wraps off the 570S Coupe ahead of its official debut at the New York Auto Show, which kicks off later this week. That’s hardly surprising, given that it was already teasing the baby of its sports range last week.

While the 570S might be at the bottom of its particular range, calling it “entry level” would be stretching the term to its limits. This is, after all, a car which boasts a twin turbo V8 engine, capable of producing 570PS and 600Nm of torque.

The mid-engined rear-wheel-drive sports car has a power-to-weight ratio of 434PS per tonne and is capable of going from 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and 0-200km/h in 9.5 seconds.

That’s not really how McLaren is hoping to sell the 570S though. Instead, the speed-obsessed British marque is taking the angle that this is “the most usable McLaren to date”. The seats, for instance, are upholstered and the dashboard and steering wheel are also all leather trimmed.

McLaren also claims that “intelligent and ergonomic design” within the cabin provides extended stowage space, with “the most usable space of any McLaren model to date”. The front luggage bay meanwhile has 150l of storage.

There’s also plenty of tech, including a full infotainment system which comes with a TFT digital instrument cluster that changes configuration according to driving mode, a seven-inch IRIS touchscreen, which has integrated climate control functionality, Bluetooth connectivity and DAB digital / SIRIUS satellite radio (depending on market), mounted on a ‘floating’ centre console.
