Have you ever seen a championship decided due to fastest lap?

The final event on the Formula E calendar took place at London’s Battersea Park, featuring a double-header that took the championship down to the wire.

The second race of the weekend and the final race of the season, saw Renault‘s Sebastian Buemi and Audi Sport Abt’s Lucas di Grassi tied on 153 points apiece.

Unfortunately, di Grassi rear-ended Buemi’s car on the first lap, knocking the rear wing off the Renault e.dams car and damaging the front of Di Grassi’s car in the process.

If the race ended there, di Grassi would be the winner due having more third place finishes – both were tied on victories and second positions.

But the race didn’t end there, as both drivers got back to the pits and switched to their second cars to try and set the fastest lap (which gives the driver two points).

Buemi was able to deliver a mega fastest lap, while di Grassi was unable to respond, giving Renault’s driver the championship win.

Meanwhile, at the front of the field, Nico Prost was able to take a dominant win, leaving Daniel Abt over seven seconds behind. Jerome D’Ambrosio took third position, being over 22 seconds behind Abt.

Renault e.dams also takes the constructor’s championship, having scored 270 to Audi Sport Abt’s 221 points.
