It will be one of only a handful to offer electric passenger cars in South Africa.
“Across the world, the automotive industry is announcing plans to phase out combustion engines to advance the transformation of the industry for the future,” Head of Audi South Africa, Sascha Sauer, said in a statement.
“Not only are we aligned with the importance of sustainability, but we have the technology, performance and design credentials within our e-tron range, to offer our premium customers an all-electric drive that will inspire and excite.”
The local production forms part of Audi’s commitment that every car it sells globally by 2026 will be all-electric.
What Audi e-tron models are coming to SA?
Audi plans to introduce six e-tron models that fall under three different vehicle categories. The categories include SUV, CUV, and High Performance — with each category offering two variants each.
In the SUV category, it will offer the e-tron 50 and e-tron 55 models.
In the CUV category, it will offer the e-tron Sportback 55 and e-tron Sportback S.
And in the high-performance category, it will offer the e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT.
The flagship e-tron GT boasts a power output of 350 kW and can go from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Audi claims the car has a range of 488 km on a full charge.
Audi will announce vehicle specifications and prices closer to the local launch.
