People may laugh if your drive Yamaha’s Tricity scooter, but you probably won’t fall
As any scooter owner will tell you, you’re not really part of the club until you’ve fallen over. By that measure though, it seems unlikely that anyone buying Yamaha’s new Tricity scooter.
As you may have gathered from the use of the word “tri” in its name, the scooter has three wheels. Unlike a lot of more traditional trikes though, it has two wheels at the front rather than at the back.
Set to launch first in the Thai market, Yamaha claims that it has the same “ease of operation characteristic of an automatic transmission motorcycle”. This apparently comes courtesy of its Leaning Multi Wheel technology, which allows vehicles with three or more wheels to lean through corners like a motorbike.
The 125cc scooter weighs 150kgs when fully brimmed with fuel, features hydraulic disc brakes, telescopic suspension and not much else. Then again, if you’re looking for a light weight commuter, then you’re probably a lot more interested in how much less petrol you’ll use than any high-tech accessories.
