JAC brings N55 electric truck to South Africa
JAC Motors has announced its N55 Electric Vehicle (EV) is now available to order in South Africa two years after its international launch.
The local launch forms part of the Chinese carmaker’s attempts to introduce efficient, cost-effective electric trucks to local markets.
“We are extremely excited about this ground-breaking event for the JAC Motors brand in South Africa,” CEO of JAC Motors South Africa, Karl-Heinz Göbel, said in a statement.
“The new N55 EV is an emission-free truck suitable for a range of city operations which provides a reliable, economical and safe solution to transport operators.”
JAC Motors has been making electric trucks since 2014.
The N55 EV was first launched in China in 2019. It can carry loads of up to 2.5 tonnes.
The truck uses a liquid-cooled 96.77kWh capacity LFP battery mated to an automatic transmission.
When connected via standard CCS2-Combo connections, the battery recharges to 80% capacity in one-and-a-half hours. It has a range of 200 kilometres.
Performance-wise, the N55 EV accelerates from 0 to 50km/h in eight seconds and has a top speed of 90km/h.
The truck’s cabin measures 1 995mm in width and offers seating for three occupants. Interior features include air conditioning, electric windows, and an 8-inch touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity.
Safety features include ABS and a pedestrian warning system.
The JAC N55 EV is available to order from JAC Motors nationwide as part of the N-Series range of trucks.
