App.net gets first mobile client in form of Hooha
Subscription-based social network App.net has its first third-party mobile client in the shape of Hooha, available now on the Google Play Store.
According to The Next Web, the app was built by Australian developer The Modern Ink and released over the weekend.
Like App.net Hooha is in Alpha, but it still looks pretty slick. The app includes tabs for viewing rolling stream, mentions and global posts. You can do all the usual social networking app stuff like follow people, view their user profiles and share links to Hooha from other Android apps.
According to The Next Web, the app developer Deniz Veli found the build “fairly painless”.
“The API is in alpha so it’s still under construction in many ways, but the App.net team have been great at providing support. I’ve sent emails / messages to the team and always received a prompt response,” he said.
That’s suggest that App.net is coming good on its promise to be a “real-time social service where users and developers come first, not advertisers”. That putting users and developers first comes out of a frustration with some recent changes made to Twitter that have left some developers feeling alienated.
The fact that app has come so soon also suggests that App.net isn’t on a lonely crusade. A couple of weeks back, the service hit its initial target of US$800 000 in funding.
