Folks from the ’80s and ’90s dreamed of a day when they would be able to strap on a giant piece of headgear, press the power button and be transported to a fantasy world, removed from the dangers, drama and hardships of day-to-day living. There’s an obvious appeal to the kind of escapism virtual reality affords.
